CARLA J. FISHER

Life is meant to be lived, and thanks to our careers and sense of adventure, I and my family certainly have! My husband, Ed, was in the US Army for 31 years and I in financial services for 25, both affording us many moves! When we retired, we continued our nomad lifestyle, moving throughout the country in a forty-foot motorhome. Anything that grabbed our attention warranted a linger to experience it. In 2013, when Ed succumbed to cancer and made his final stop in Arlington National Cemetery, I needed to find a way to take 40 years of “we” and turn it upside down to make a “me”. I did that by going back to school to study art at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. There I completed their Post Baccalaureate Program which would allow one to matriculate right into an MFA.

After graduation in 2016, I began my art career as a studio artist, sculpting two and three dimensionally with thread. Soon I began adding recycled materials and encaustic wax to my creations. Having worked with both galleries and an agent, my work has now been shown and sold in seven countries including England, Korea, Italy, Ukraine, Japan, Canada, and the United States. I was one of the inaugural artists at the Cherry Street Pier in Philadelphia, where

resident studio artists had the opportunity to work, sell, and interact with the public with their work. In 2020, I left Philadelphia for a small coastal town in NC where I opened a gallery with working artists, an education center, and art supply store.  I’ve been exceptionally fortunate in my short art career with many accolades,  recognitions, and sales. However, my most humbling award was being honored in Florence, Italy in 2020 with the DaVinci Award. Every other year, 100 artists from around the world are selected to receive this recognition for their innovation and excellence in art.

May I always be striving to be its worthy recipient.
